Heidi Sexton, Nurse Practitioner, joined Cancer Care Specialists in January 2012. She is primarily seeing patients within CCSCI’s Urologic Oncology department located in the Cancer Care Center of Decatur and is providing services in coordination with Dr. Thomas Tarter. She also assists with surgical services performed at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Sexton obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Illinois State University in Normal in 2008. She went on to earn a Masters of Science in Nursing with an emphasis as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2011.

Sexton is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is licensed as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. As a Nurse Practitioner in CCSCI’s Urologic Oncology department, Sexton can provide more services than a Registered Nurse, but not as much as a Doctor. She will assess patient needs, provide health exams, order diagnostic tests (such as x-rays, CT/PET scans, and laboratory tests), oversee specific urologic procedures, and confer with Dr. Tarter and other CCSCI doctors regarding patient care.
Sexton has a special interest in urologic oncology and acute and critical care nursing. She has experience as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and also has critical care nursing experience in cardio-pulmonary and cardiovascular care.
